The first step to deal with a difficult boss is to be as kind as possible. Yes..that's right. You catch more flies with honey as they say. The nicer you are to your boss, the more you will irritate him or her, and they will see they are not getting to you like they thought they would. Eventually, they won't get any pleasure out of seeing you "not" being in misery being at their beck and call!

After a rough day dealing with your boss, be sure to have a friend to call and vent to. Chances are, they are going through the same thing since no one's job is perfect. You'd be surprised at how much you will have in common. Being able to discuss your feelings with a neutral party will make you feel better and allow you to get things off your chest. Don't make this a habit though, otherwise your friends won't want to hear you complaining constantly!

If you are in the room with your boss speaking to you in an undermining way, think of a cool song and start humming it in your head. Smile. Keep your cool. Say, "sure...no problem" no matter how bad you may be fuming inside. Take a notebook and jot down and document anything negative that happens, and determine exactly when it happens. Maybe after lunch? Or after your boss gets off the phone with a certain person? Perhaps something specific is triggering his or her inappropriate actions to you.

Finally, if all else fails and your boss just has it in for you, start looking for a fresh new job. Have confidence that someone else will appreciate your skills, and will treat you civil. Update that resume.but don't quit your job until you get a new one.Use your personal and sick time to go on interviews if need be. The important thing is not to throw away the dirty water until you get the fresh one, as the saying goes.
