How to give Cats Pills

If the Vet has sent you home with medicine for your cat in pill form, here
are helpful tips to help give your cat
a pill.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Butter
• Treats
• Towel
• Gentle Voice

1. First get your items together and have the tablet handy.
   Rub the tablet with butter to lubricate it and put a little butter on
   your index finger.

2. In a gentle voice, call your cat and hold him/her securely in your arms
   or if your cat is nervous, you may need to swaddle him with the towel.
   Hold your cat with one arm firmly against your body so that you can
   use your free hand to administer the pill.

3. With your free hand, gently pry your cat's mouth open by the corners of his lips and with your buttered finger, slip the pill as far back in his mouth as you can and pat a little butter on his nose. This will help him swallow the pill. You can even use hair ball rememdy ointment on his nose right after inserting the pill to make him swallow.

Tips & Warnings

• Praise your cat after the pill is administered and give him some treats
• If your pet is difficult for you to handle alone, enlist a friend's help
• Remember it may take a couple of trys to get it right
• Be patient and realize your cat may not cooperate
• You can ask your Vet for help and bring your cat in
• Make sure your cat takes ALL his meds as directed by your Vet
