Having trouble enjoying your D&D campaign? Take a moment to assess the problem. There are many reasons why your game isn't turning out so well, but there are many solutions too.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • D&D Books (whichever edition you use)
  • A Dungeon Master
  • Players!
  1. Step 1

Make sure no one is taking the game too seriously! This is by far the most important step. Sometimes people get really attached to their characters and they can get really angry when their level 44 Paladin gets squashed by a flying boulder.

  2. Step 2

Save yourself some time, either be patient with newer players, or make sure everyone knows the rules ahead of time. You'll be thanking me when you only spend a half hour during battles instead of that hour-and-a-half it takes a noob spell caster to look through the books...

  3. Step 3

Play fair. When it's your turn to play Dungeon Master- don't take revenge on your buddy for killing your cleric last week. Nobody likes an unfair DM- it can only lead to tears...or the death of yet another beloved character...

  4. Step 4

Lastly, don't get too caught up in the rules. The best Dungeons and Dragons games fudge on the rules a little bit- so don't be a stickler. If someone decides that they want to eat that mushroom you alluded to in that forest- let them. See what happens. Sometimes you have to close the books to have a little unexpected fun!

Tips & Warnings
  • As a DM, a little mercy goes a long way
  • As a player, try to stay a LITTLE more focused on the plot- sometimes you forget what you're doing and it can cause frustration...
