Things You'll Need:
- Your Bill.
- A phone.
- a good amount of time and patience.
-
Step 1
Many companies now offer all 3 services on a single bill for a lower cost for each of them. Commitment time is often about a year and I have found that these services will often save you money and condense your bills. If you don't do this, look into it.
-
Step 2
Let's assume that you aren't paying for extra services you don't use and what you're paying right now is the smallest you can for your needs. What you need to do is call your provider's competitors and ask for their rates. Ask for total cost per month after taxes, taxes will add up and vary per company I have found.
-
Step 3
Look at your current bill and compare it to the other offers, lets say your company (Lets call them company A) charges you 130 a month, and company B will give you all 3 services for 110 dollars. Call company A and ask to speak to their retentions department. Don't worry, they'll know what you're talking about.
-
Step 4
Every large telecommunications/cable company will have a retentions department. These are the people who will call you after you've left and try to get you back. Tell the person company B has offered you a better deal and you're going to switch, ask them if they can do anything to sweeten your deal. Give them an offer to match and be persistent. Don't be hesitant to bluff them. I have been offered free HBO, monthly discounts and other things to keep me. I always prefer to stay with who I am with as then I don't have to watt for the cable guy all day.
-
Step 5
Sometimes companies will not budge. This is when you have to go over to competitors. Call and get a comparable package for cheaper. Make sure that the monthly savings are enough to justify you waiting around for a cable guy.
