save money for a vacation

Everyone needs a little rest and relaxation now and then. Read these tips to find out how to save money for a vacation. Whether you want to visit the beach or an amusement park, you can find ways to save.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine your budget and where you'd like to go

With high gas prices, vacationing close to home is a way to pay less money. Even if you'd like to venture to exotic lands or go on a cruise vacation, you can still save. Set a realistic budget for you and your family and a time frame for saving.

  2. Step 2

Set aside a portion of each paycheck

Even if you only save $5 a week, that adds up. Make it a point to set aside a set amount of money and do that before you spend any part of your paycheck. A luxury vacation can be in your reach!

  3. Step 3

    Avoid buying unnecessary items.

Do you have a Starbucks habit? Do you eat lunch at a restaurant every day? You could be putting that money into your piggy bank for an awesome resort vacation instead. Try making your own coffee drinks at home and packing your lunch.

  4. Step 4

Get a head start on saving

Recently my family and I cleared out our stash of movies, games and CDs that we no longer use. I sold them to a used multimedia store and walked away with nearly $500! See if you have anything you are not using. You could turn it into cash for a quick weekend vacation!

  5. Step 5

    Look into vacation packages.

You may have to save less money overall if you can find a good deal on a vacation. Look for an all inclusive deal. Since the economy is not good right now a lot of resorts are slashing their rates.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sign up for vacation hot spot mailing lists and coupons. You won't have to save as much money if you can get a good discount.
  • Consider vacationing during the off season. Usually hotels and vacation packages are cheaper during non peak times.
