Determine the material. You can buy glides as felt, carpet padding, plastic, and even teflon plastic. Felt moves the least, while teflon and plastic slide with greater ease.

Choose the right size pads. You'll need to put larger, wider glides on large table legs, and small glides on chair legs. Buy a variety of sizes for all the furniture in your house or apartment.

Turn the furniture on it's side or upside down and apply the pads. Be careful not to scratch the furniture or the floor when you are turning large tables and sofas on their side. Use towels on the edges of tables to protect them from scratches when they are on their sides.
