Things You'll Need:
- Screw Driver
- Hammer
- 20d (20 penny) Ringshank Nails.
-
Step 1
Door Striker PlateRemove those cheesy little 1 inch brass screws from the striker plate on your door jamb and your hinges attached to the hinge side of the door jamb.
-
Step 2
Galvanized 20d Ring-shank NailReplace those wimpy little screws with a 20d Ring-shank Nail (20 penny is about 6 inches long. Or you can use a 30d Ring-shank Nail.
-
Step 3
More secure to drive through the 2 studs than just a piece of 1' x 4"The idea is to drive the nail through the 1" x 4" piece of wood that we call the "jamb". Drive the nail through the jamb and through the Jack Stud AND the King Stud.

on 3/1/2009 Thank you for the tip. We have cameras, an alarm system and a dog but I don't want intruders coming in in the first place.
