How to Assess Your Weight Loss Goals

At the beginning of starting plan to lose weight, it is important to set goals for yourself. These goals in your plan to lose weight are important to be achievable. You need to make realistic weight loss goals for yourself. When you have realistic goals in mind when you begin a diet plan, you will be more likely to see the results that you want. When you are reaching for goals that you can not get to, you will give up on your diet plan before it has barely had a chance to start. To make achievable weight loss goals, you really need to assess them so that they will work for you.

  1. Step 1

    Look at the weight that you are currently at. Many times people are thinner then they actually think they are. A realistic view of your current weight will help you to assess and set more realistic weight loss goals. Once you have figured out where you are on your road to lose weight, you can start to think about where you want to go with your diet plan.

  2. Step 2

    The average person can be healthy and lose 2 pounds a week. Look at the amount of weight that you want to lose. Divide this number by 2 to get the number of weeks that it will take you to achieve the weight loss that you want. To lose weight you need to figure out a time frame for your weight loss goals. An assessment of the proper time frame for your weight loss goals will help take you far on your road to lose weight.

  3. Step 3

    About half way through your diet plan, you will want to sit down and reassess your weight loss goals. See where you are on your way to lose weight and how realistic your goals were to begin with. You may have to increase your time frame to make your new goals better for you. Perhaps you are doing better then you though and you can plan on being done your diet plan earlier then you thought.

  4. Step 4

    You need to have your goals laid out before you start any diet plan. If you do not know where you are going on your road to lose weight, how will you know the steps that you will need to take to get there. This is a basic concept that you can use to obtain any goal from weight loss to buying a house.

on 9/22/2008 These are really honest, really straightforward tips. It's so sad that we've become obsessed with trying to get Biggest Loser results while still living our regular lifestyles. Sooner or later we're all going to accept that there are no lasting shortcuts, and that setting and working through realistic goals is the best way to take off pounds.
