Have you ever tried solving a Rubik's Cube? Do you get frustrated after all the countless failed attempts and conclude that it was impossible? If this sounds like you, fear not. I have prepared a simple 4 part solution to the Cube that will teach even a first-timer to solve it. Just make sure you pay attention to detail and good luck! Here is part one.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Important symbols to know:
  • F(Front face)
  • L(Left)
  • R(Right)
  • U(Upper)
  • D(Down)
  • B(Back)
  • R(no ')= rotate side one quarter turn (90°) CLOCKWISE-in this case, rotate right side
  • U'= rotate side one quarter turn (90°) COUNTERCLOCKWISE-in this case, rotate upper side
  • D"= rotate side one half turn (180°)-in this case, rotate down side
  • IMPORTANT NOTICE: rotating clockwise and counterclockwise is with respect to that specific side (pretend looking at the side as if it were a clock and rotate accordingly
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to notice is that the center piece never moves; we'll use this to our advantage. Next, pick a color and stick with it. The first thing we need to do is make a cross using the 4 side pieces of the color you chose.

  2. Step 2
white is the face chosen here

Its important that when you make the cross, the 4 side pieces also match colors with the 4 center pieces of the adjacent faces. If it doesn't match, take the unmatched pieces out and try to rematch them. When you're done, it should look like this pic.

  3. Step 3
    Do F' U 'F

    Do F' U 'F

To complete the first layer, we need to add in the corner pieces. It's important to choose the correct corner piece for each corner by looking at the centers of the three adjacent faces. Get your cube to a similar position as shown in one of the pictures and follow the algorithms stated. It's also very important to look at and set the front face as the default face (in this case, the red center face) when performing the algorithms to ensure that you get the correct results. Here's the 1st scenario pic.

  4. Step 4
    Do R U' R

    Do R U' R

  5. Step 5
    Do R U' R' U2

  6. Step 6

And there, you should have the first layer completed ^^

    It should look like this
