Asthma is a respiratory disease, which if not controlled, can be life-threatening. Allergies and irritants can trigger an asthma attack, causing wheezing, tightness of the chest, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Below you will see a list of irritants, that can trigger an asthma attack, and ways to prevent them.

  1. Step 1

    Being aware of the things that trigger an asthma attack can reduce the number of attacks that you get. Some people may have different reactions to some irritants. Avoid air pollutants such as, cigarette smoke. Keep in mind that secondhand smoke also triggers asthma symptoms.

  2. Step 2

    Allergens such as, dust mites, animal dander and mold are some common triggers. To reduce asthma symptoms, avoid coming into contact with these allergens.

  3. Step 3

    Certain times of the year, there are pollens that can trigger asthma attacks. If it's possible, avoid the outdoors when the pollen is mostly high. Late afternoon is the best time to be outdoors.

  4. Step 4

    Menstrual cycle in some women can trigger asthma symptoms. Ask your doctor for treatment.

  5. Step 5

    Physical activities in people with asthma, should be done in moderation. Overexertion can trigger asthma symptoms.

  6. Step 6

    Having a cold or the flu can also trigger asthma. Practice good handwashing techniques, to avoid catching the flu.

  • Dry your clothes in a dryer instead of outdoor.
