Just recently Google Finance has started offering free real time quotes on individual stocks on its website. Simply login and check your stock and the quote will be updated automatically.

If you are looking for a more detailed stock quote I suggest using TradingDay.com. TradingDay allows you to watch the buys and sells as they come into the system, and even allows you to see how many shares each buyer or seller is trying to move. This is also a good option for after hours quotes, since TradingDay tracks orders from 8 am to 8 pm.

More recently some cell phone carriers have been offering free real time stock quotes as part of a subscription package. Check with your provider to see if the stock quotes on your phone are free and in real time.
