Find Winter Fonts

Whether you just like to correspond with friends, or are getting ready to print off that holiday letter, choosing the right font to make your headline “pop” is essential. For winter projects, fonts can be super fun with snow covered capital letters or print reminiscent of favorite holiday films. When used correctly and sparingly, specialized winter fonts can really make your flyer or greeting card shine. Most word processing software comes with few fonts, so supplementing your supply is necessary. Looking for some free or inexpensive winter fonts? Here’s where to start your search.

Things You'll Need:

  • Memory stick or disc to download fonts onto
  1. Step 1

Start at fontspace.com for a wide variety of fun and free winter fonts. They have everything from “snowperson” fonts with the obvious snowman theme to "Frosty the Snowman" movie style fonts. These fonts come from different sources, so be sure to create a restore point or download onto a disc first to be sure there is no spyware involved (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Head out to free-fonts.com to get the link to a round font type, Never Winter Nights. This site is basically a linkup site that takes you all over the place, which is both annoying and helpful. They have done some of the work for you to find the elusive Wintermute font or Winter in Gotham link, so check it out and download for free (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

Pile up the Santas for your holiday card with the Santa Time font available at dafont.com. Candy cane fonts and a cool toy train font are all available here, and make creating greeting cards for the kids really easy (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Download some Hanukkah fonts to use in your winter correspondence. Clipartforeducators.com has some unusual freeware fonts, and dreidel shaped letters and Star of David fonts are available through this site. Unique and perfect for those who celebrate this season (see Resources below).

  5. Step 5

Be all about snowflakes with the Snowy Caps font from Urbanfonts.com. It's nice to use for a flyer headline or a custom monogram envelope for your holiday greetings.

  6. Step 6

Check out personal blog sites or websites for some unique winter fonts. Geocities came up with some cool Happy New Year type fonts that you can’t find anywhere else. From a private source such as this, be cautious when downloading and run a spyware check and virus check after all downloads. Follow the link below to check out the New Years Eve fonts.

  7. Step 7

If you don’t want to run the risk of spyware or other problems associated with freeware, there are plenty of fonts for purchase available. Fonts.com offers lots of cool winter fonts for a price. They have a nice font based on a bird's footprint in the snow called For the Birds for $22, but many of their other fonts are priced anywhere from $22 to $86.

Tips & Warnings
  • Save freeware fonts to a disc or memory stick and be sure it doesn’t include any spyware before transferring the font into your font library.
  • Always use specialty fonts sparingly. Too many fancy fonts make a document unreadable, so use them only for headlines or titles.
