How to Dress up Like a Demon for Halloween
There are a number of types of demons that one can dress up as for Halloween, and each of them can be quite effective in their own right. This article is focusing on the Japanese demons inspired by the demon masks in that culture. They can be fascinating Halloween costumes and can be re-created with nothing but creativity.

- Construction paper
- Masking tape
- Hair band
- Glue
- Black eye liner
- Makeup and face paint
- Large piece of red fabric (color optional)
- Old silk robe
- Fake sword or pitchfork

Roll up some construction paper into the shape of pointed horns by manipulating the paper into a cone shape. Once in the correct shape, take some masking tape and secure it in place.

Affix the two horns into place by gluing them to a headband. Try on the headband first, and mark the spots on the headband where you want each horn.

Color the horns with red paint or any color that you like. Red stands out fairly well and is a nice devilish color so it works well. Keep in mind that this will determine the color scheme for the costume.

Paint your entire face the brightest red color that you can find in face paint. Do not use unsafe paints, and always check to be sure that it is safe for human skin. To avoid allergic reactions, test your paint on a small patch of skin first.

Dry the face paint before doing anything else. A blow dryer can speed up this process if you are in a hurry. Once dry, you can begin to draw in some evil eyebrows with black eyeliner. Do this by exaggerating your existing eyebrows. This will make you appear to scowl.

Paint your lips a bright yellow color to give maximum neon effect. This will also draw attention to your mouth. Blacken your teeth or put in some of the fake rotten teeth found in Halloween stores.

Fill in your eye sockets with black paint. This will give you a hollowed-out look, and is quite scary. Also, trace your cheekbones in black and everything beyond the cheek should be totally black. This narrows your face into a demonic scowl quite effectively.

Cut a large piece of red fabric into a cape. This will serve as one of your props when the costume is done. A simple square cut that tapers down at the neck is the easiest method. Draw out the pattern of the cape with chalk before cutting.

Take an old silky type robe and wear it as a kimono. If you have none, then fashion one from the red fabric leftovers. The best possible costume is an actual kimono if you do not mind using it. As a base for the costume, dress in all black underneath.

Arm yourself with a really cool fake sword or pitchfork to round out the demon costume. This is optional, but props always sell the look. You are now ready to go out and scare people to death on Halloween.

Remember that no two demons look the same.
In lieu of the kimono, you can also dress as a Japanese Ninja for the same effect.
Never use regular paint on your skin.
Be mindful of color when dressing your child for trick or treating. Use bright colors.
