How to Clean Crayon Marks From Wood Furniture
To a kid with a crayon, the whole world is his canvas. If that world includes your finest wood furniture, you may have a tough cleaning job ahead of you. The wax compounds and consistencies of crayons vary from one brand to another, making some very easy to clean and others nearly impossible to wipe away. If you've found that the crayon stain is of the latter variety, try this helpful trick. It can take care of even the stickiest, waxiest crayon marks without damaging the wood or its finish. Things You'll Need
- Dry laundry starch
- Water
- Bowl
- Small paintbrush, pastry brush or basting brush
- Soft cloth
- Paper towels
- Furniture polish (optional)

Mix up a small batch of paste using dry starch and cold water. Follow the directions indicated on the starch container to determine the proper amounts of each ingredient.

Use a paintbrush, pastry brush or basting brush to apply a fairly thick coat of starch paste to the entire stained area. Allow the paste to dry and harden completely. This may take more than an hour.

Use a soft cloth to rub out the starch paste. Rub in a circular motion while applying substantial pressure. Buff the area until all of the crayon markings have come up and all of the starch paste has been loosened.

Soak a paper towel in water and wring out the excess. Use the damp paper towel to wipe up all of the crumbs of starch left behind. Use a dry paper towel to wipe the area dry.

If you want to help safeguard the furniture against future crayon attacks, apply a coat of furniture polish by following the directions on the can, jar or bottle of polish you have. This will create a thin, waxy layer that will make stains easier to remove.

Tips & Warnings
Buy erasable or water soluable crayons for your children if you're worried about this happening. Marks from these types of crayons can usually be wiped away with just warm water or with gentle household cleaners.
Keep your pets away from the furniture while the starch is drying. They may get curious and lick it off.
