Adding floral accents to your home lends warmth and can bring a little bit of nature to the indoors. Flowers are also a simple way of changing the décor and feel of your home without spending a large amount of money. If you choose to change your flower arrangements along with the seasons, you will find that craft stores usually provide artificial flowers shortly before the season begins to help give you a jump start on your decorating. And the array of artificial autumn flowers supplied by most craft store makes choosing your next fall floral arrangement a snap. For an added touch, you can try making a lit vase that will really show off its new autumn colors.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clear vase
  • Artificial autumn flowers
  • Raffia
  • Strand of lights
  • Autumn-themed accents
  1. Step 1

Choose a clear vase that will be tall enough to display your autumn flowers. If the flowers greatly exceed the rim of the vase, it may become unstable and tip. Therefore, it's a good idea to purchase the vase when you purchase the flowers, to ensure they will work well together.

  2. Step 2

Place a liberal amount of raffia in your vase, starting at the bottom and pulling up on the ends so that some of the raffia hangs over the edge of the vase. You will want to have a good amount of raffia inside the vase, but make sure you leave some room for your lights.

  3. Step 3

Bundle up your lights and add them to the vase, making sure to leave enough of the cord hanging outside of the vase to plug it in. As you add the lights to the vase, add a bit more raffia as well. Push the lights down toward the bottom of the vase as you pull up on the raffia, making an even disbursement of raffia and lights inside the vase.

  4. Step 4

Arrange your autumn flowers in your vase by placing taller flowers in the back and smaller ones in the front, for a good balance. You may need to cut some of the stems to make all of the flowers sit well in the vase. You can do this by using a pair of wire cutters; continue until the stems of the flowers are the length you need.

  5. Step 5

Add a few finishing touches to your lighted vase, such as a bow or other harvest items. Plug in your lights and display your lit vase in an area where it can be enjoyed.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use any color lights that you think will complement the décor of your home. Christmas lights work best; just be sure to choose a set that supports the autumn theme. White, green or gold are usually safe choices.
  • Never attempt this project with real flowers that require water. Electricity and water do not mix, and the outcome could be quite hazardous.
