When you are instructed in tap dancing to do a toe or heel clip, it means that the toe or heel of your working foot (the foot that you’re using) will strike either the toe or heel of your other foot. The term “clip” indicates that one part of your body (the toe or heel) is making contact with, or clipping, another part of your body (the toe or heel of your other foot) in passing. Learn to do the toe and heel clip by following the instructions below.

Things You'll Need:

  • Tap shoes
  1. Step 1

    Hit the toe of your left foot with the heel of your right foot.

  2. Step 2

    Lift the ball of your left foot and drop.

  3. Step 3

    Step in front of your left foot with your right foot.

  4. Step 4

    Hit the right heel with your left toe.

  5. Step 5

    Drop the heel of your right foot.

  6. Step 6

    Step to the left on your left foot.

  7. Step 7

    Remember the count: "and a 1 and a 2."

  8. Step 8

    Learn the steps: Strike toe with heel, drop ball, step down, strike heel with toe, drop heel, step down.
