Shrinky Dink crafts are easy and fun to make. Kids love watching their creations shrink in the oven and become miniature trinkets. Shrinky Dinks make nice charms for bracelets and necklaces; they can also be used as Christmas ornaments. This craft project teaches a child to make a Shrinky Dink Christmas tree that is unique to her and shows off her creativity.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shrinky Dink sheet
  • Pencil crayons
  • Scissors
  • Cookie sheet
  1. Step 1

Buy a package of Shrinky Dink plastic sheets. You can get them for $3 to $5. If you don't have a store near you that sells them, you can follow the link in Resources to buy them from the manufacturer.

  2. Step 2

Take out a Shrinky Dink sheet and place it rough side up.

  3. Step 3

Draw the outline of your Christmas tree on your Shrinky Dink sheet with a green pencil crayon. Make sure you make the picture bigger than you actually want it to be, as it is going to shrink.

  4. Step 4

Add a tree trunk and a circle around the bottom of the trunk for the Christmas tree skirt. This is optional but recommended, because it makes your tree look like a Christmas tree that you would find in a friendly living room.

  5. Step 5

Color in your Christmas tree any way you like. You can add garland, a big star, ornaments or even a popcorn string.

  6. Step 6

Cut out your Shrinky Dink, but make sure you leave a clear space on all sides. In other words, make the cutout shape slightly wider than the tree itself.

  7. Step 7

Heat your oven to 325 degrees F.

  8. Step 8

Place your cutout Shrinky Dink on a cookie sheet and place it in the oven.

  9. Step 9

Cook your Shrinky Dink for only 1 minute. Then remove it from the oven.

  10. Step 10

Wait for your Shrinky Dink to cool off before you use it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a hole punch to create a hole for a hook, so you can hang the Shrinky Dink on a real tree.
  • Don't take your eyes off the Shrinky Dink when it is in the oven. It will burn easily.
