Lipstick on the collar, while it has helped to advance many a soap opera storyline, isn't so entertaining in real life. Lipstick stains set fast and hard. If you have any hope of removing them completely, you have to get to them right away, and you have to use the right cleaning materials. Put down that stain stick and head to the pantry for some peanut butter to get started.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lipstick-stained garment
  • Creamy peanut butter
  • Knife
  • Soft-bristled scrub brush
  • Warm water
  • Woolite or dish soap
  • Washing machine and dryer
  • Laundry detergent
  1. Step 1

Use a butter knife to apply a generous glob of peanut butter to the stain. Rub the peanut butter onto the stain well using either the knife or your fingers. Let the peanut butter patch sit for only about two or three minutes.

  2. Step 2

Run some warm water in the sink and rinse the peanut butter and lipstick stain. Use a soft bristle brush to scrub away the majority of the peanut butter; it will take the majority of the lipstick down the drain with it.

  3. Step 3

Put the stopper in the sink and pour some dish soap, Woolite or any other hand-wash detergent into the water. Continue working at the stain with the brush and soapy solution for several more minutes or until the stain disappears completely.

  4. Step 4

Put the garment into the washing machine right away. Even if you can't see the stain anymore, it could just be difficult to see because the garment is still wet. You may use a commercial laundry product designed to pre-treat tough stains at this point if you have one handy. Wash the garment with your usual detergent and on your usual settings.

  5. Step 5

Dry the washed garment in a clothes dryer or on a clothesline. If any faint stain remains, consider consulting a dry cleaner.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use creamy peanut butter, not chunky. The chunks won't harm the garment, but they will just make it harder to scrub.
  • Do not attempt this solution when it comes to garments marked as dry clean only.
