Pretzels are the same color and shape as the logs used in making log cabins. Use pretzel sticks to create a craft log cabin--just perfect for President's Day or remember and celebrate the life of Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln lived in a log cabin like most people of his day. Look through some old books that show pictures log cabins and then begin this craft.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 pint milk carton
  • Pretzel sticks
  • 1 fat short pretzel
  • Chocolate graham crackers
  • Peanut butter
  • Plastic butter knife
  1. Step 1

Completely wash out the milk carton with soap and water. Place it in a dish rack to air dry.

  2. Step 2

Using a plastic butter knife, spread some peanut butter on one of the side of the carton, either the back or two sides. The sides will all be done the same way, but leave the front for later.

  3. Step 3

Stick some long skinny pretzels all the way along the sides and back. Have them align from side to side, stacking up towards the top from the bottom.

  4. Step 4

Make the front of the log cabin by first spreading some peanut butter on the front. Then make a door by taking long skinny pretzel sticks and having them stand upward instead of on their side like the logs going around the cabin. Snap some long skinny pretzels in half and have them stand upward in the window areas. Create two windows with these sticks. Now finish the front by adding the long skinny pretzel sticks sideways as you have done for the rest of the log cabin. You will need to break some pieces to fit around the door and windows.

  5. Step 5

Use peanut butter to glue big pretzel sticks to the corners. You can put one on each corner.

  6. Step 6

Spread the peanut butter on the carton "roof."

  7. Step 7

Add graham crackers to the roof until it is completely covered. Try to have a piece of it sticking over the edges of the side as it would have looked on a real cabin in the old days. This would keep the rain flowing down to the ground instead of into the house.

  8. Step 8

Allow the peanut butter to harden for a few hours and the cabin is finished.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use icing instead of peanut butter and make sure it is chocolate so it is the right color.
  • Attach a chocolate chip to the door with peanut butter as the doorknob.
