Make a Paper Plate Autumn Wreath

This autumn leaf paper plate wreath is a project fit for all preschool ages. The wreath should be entirely created by the child and will make a great gift for parents. Wreaths can be used as a classroom decoration. The leaves will eventually lose their luster, dry out and crumble, but if you would like to protect the color of the leaves, you can spray each wreath with a protective acryllic spray that can be found in the floral aisle of craft departments.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 9-inch paper plate
  • Washable brown paint
  • Fall leaves
  • Small pinecones
  • Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Narrow ribbon
  1. Step 1

Prepare paper plates. Prior to starting the craft project, you should cut out the center of each paper plate.

  2. Step 2

Gather leaves and pinecones. If possible, take your children on a nature walk and allow them to gather their own leaves and pinecones. All leaves and pinecones should be washed and dried completely before gluing them to the plate.

  3. Step 3

Paint the plate. Give each child a small amount of brown paint. Instruct the children to paint the paper plate. Allow paper plate to dry.

  4. Step 4

Arrange and glue. Arrange leaves and pinecones around the rim of the paper plate. Spread a sufficient amount of glue in effort to securely hold the leaves and pinecones. Allow to dry completely.

  5. Step 5

Prepare to hang. Punch a hole in the top of the wreath. Tie a ribbon to use as a hanger.

Tips & Warnings
  • If paper plate is too flimsy with the added embellishments, adhere a second paper plate to the back side.
  • Small children should be supervised by an adult when doing this project to ensure that a child does not put leaves into her mouth.
