Evaluate your canine for symptoms of pelvis fracture. Dogs that suffer from this condition may limp on their hind legs and appear in pain. You may also notice that your social dog becomes more reclusive and appears depressed.

Take your dog to the vet for an exam. Call the vet and advise of your arrival. If you have a large dog, have someone assist in carrying the dog to the car. Don’t allow your dog to bear any weight on the affected area to prevent further injury.

Request a radiograph of the pelvic region. This will allow your vet to determine if a pelvic fracture is present. Since this condition can be very painful to your dog, ask for pain medication immediately to keep him comfortable.

Allow your canine to undergo surgery to stabilize the fracture. Unfortunately dogs that experience a pelvis fracture don’t have the option of using a splint or cast. Therefore your best option is to undergo surgery.

Create a soothing place for your canine to rest. Move your dog’s bed to a quiet corner in your home free of noise and stress. Remind playful children that your dog needs some quiet time to heal. Wash all bedding and provide a few favorite toys.

Protect your canine from future injury. Often, a pelvis fracture is caused by trauma. Reducing your dog’s exposure to dangerous situations can prevent future accidents. Keep your canine leashed at all times and away from dangerous areas.
Keep activity to a minimum. When your canine is recovering from a pelvis fracture, activity should be minimal. Keep him on a leash while taking potty breaks to cut down on roaming.
