How to Get Grants to Promote Music
Getting a grant to promote your music can feel like a daunting task. Although the money is out there, you many not know were to look for it. Also, grants usually involve a certain amount of paperwork. However, the good news is that a lot of people and organizations enjoy helping musical artists. Besides understanding the contribution that music brings to society, these people also want the chance to be able to say, "I knew him when."

Talk to a music director of a school. Whether this person works for high school or middle school, he can educate you on grants related to music. He also can direct you to local music lovers who might not mind investing a few bucks into your project.

Enlist the help of a business in need of entertainment. Ikea is a store that often has outdoor entertainment. They feature local artists on weekends. Contact a store near you and set up an arrangement that allots you a certain amount of grant money in exchange for live performances.

Contact an organization that helps artists. The ArtistTrust.org gives grants to musical artists. They also teach you how to get free resources because of your musical gift. Their free resources might help you lower your other expenses and even cut out the need for a grant (see Resources below).

Approach an agency that works with minority groups. The National Organization for Women offers a variety of resources. If your project is one that enlightens or promotes the cause of women, they can offer you grant money to promote it (see Resources below).

Make a date with your Human Resources officers. Find out about any scholarships or grants your company might offer. If they decide to help promote your music, your company might even give you paid sabbatical leave.

Be wary of online grant companies. Some of them are scams. So check them out with the Better Business Bureau before you apply.
