Things You'll Need:
- Gymnasium
- Crash mat
-
Step 1
Find a gym or an area where you have a lot of space and cushion for trial and error while practicing. An aerial cartwheel and an aerial twist have similar origins. If you can already perform an aerial cartwheel, you have a great head start in learning this move.
-
Step 2
To create the momentum needed for the aerial twist, spin to generate speed, and bend down in a fast motion. You will push all of your weight toward your head, making it easier to lift your feet.
-
Step 3
Once you can get your speed up, lift your body up and forward. You should look as if you are doing a spin, a dip down, and then a lift off the floor. Push off your foot, and lift your feet up. Instead of having your legs apart as they are in a cartwheel, they should be close together.
-
Step 4
Once you lift yourself off the ground, keep your feet together and try to rotate. The closeness of the legs and feel is what makes the twist possible.
-
Step 5
To complete the aerial twist successfully, try these steps in repetition: spin, bend, lift, jump, twist.
