    • 2

Visit your local library and pick up a copy of the latest issue of Ross Reports. This magazine is published monthly, and contains an updated, current list of licensed agents/ Obviously the biggest agencies will be found in New York and Los Angeles, however, there are middle markets all over the country. Chicago, Miami, Toronto and Dallas are all areas considered a middle market. If you library does not carry the Ross Reports, you can order the latest issue online.

Send these licensed agencies a cover letter and a few snapshots (at least three) of your child. It is imperative to not put makeup on your child, and it is best to show your child without a hat and without jewelry. Make sure to include your contact information and your child's statistics, such as height, weight and size.

Have a meeting once you are contacted by an agent. If they ask you for any money up front, it is a scam. You may have some fees up front to put together a composite card. The agency may recommend a photographer, but they cannot force you to use their photographer.

Sign a contract with the agency, either exclusive, or non-exclusive. Both are used in the industry and both are considered normal. Exclusive means you cannot sign with another agency, however, this agency may be able to get you all the work you need.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not pay upfront to join an agencies roster- no reputable agency will ask you to do this.

  • Do not pay thousands of dollars to put together a portfolio, you may need to spend a little, but nowhere near a thousand dollars.

  • Modeling classes that cost thousands of dollars are also typically a scam.
