How to Become a Vet Tech in Alabama

If you enjoy working with animals and working to see that they stay or become healthy, then you should pursue a career in the Veterinary Sciences. If you don't think you want to go all the way to becoming a Veterinarian, being a Veterinarian Technician is a very rewarding career, no matter where you decide to work. Read on to learn you how to become a vet tech in Alabama and works from the premise that you have already completed the required vet tech coursework from an accredited college or institution.

Things You'll Need:

  • Certificate of Veterinarian Technician Education
  • Verification of scores on the Veterinary Technician's National Examination (VTNE)
  1. Step 1

    Take the Veterinary Technician's National Examination (VTNE). If you took the VTNE in a state other than Alabama, your scores must be reported to the Alabama Board Office through the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB). Scores must be received and meet the standards of the Alabama Practice Act before an application is mailed or processed.

  2. Step 2

    Apply for your Alabama Vet Tech license and to take the Alabama State Board Written Jurisprudence Examination. You need to contact the Alabama State Board at:ALABAMA STATE BOARD OF VETERINARY MEDICAL EXAMINERS P. O. BOX 1968 DECATUR, ALABAMA 35602You will need to submit the application and the application fee of $50 as well as the Certificate of Veterinarian Technician Education filled out by the school from which you graduated.

  3. Step 3

    Take the Alabama State Board Exam after the application has been approved. The fee for the State Board Written Examination is $110.

  4. Step 4

    Complete the written portion of the state exam and you may be interviewed by the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

  5. Step 5

    Do well on the test and interview and you will be licensed to practice as a vet tech in Alabama.
