Little kids are used to making snowflakes out of paper. But as they get older, they need something a little more challenging. Creating snowflakes with popsicle sticks gives them that challenge, and involves more of the craft things they like to do, such as paint. Creating popsicle stick snowflakes is not recommended for children under the age of 8 because of the use of the hot glue gun.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Popsicle sticks
  • White paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Silver glitter
  • Hot glue gun
  1. Step 1

Take two popsicle sticks and cross them to form an "X" shape. Place a dab of hot glue where the two popsicle sticks meet in the middle. This will hold them together.

  2. Step 2

Take another popsicle stick and lay in straight down the middle of the "X." Again you will want to place a dab of hot glue where the pieces intersect.

  3. Step 3

Take 6 whole popsicle sticks and cut them about 1½ inches down. Make sure you cut them at an angle. Each popsicle stick has two ends, so you should have 12 1½-inch pieces of popsicle sticks cut at an angle.

  4. Step 4

Match the angles of two popsicle stick pieces and glue them to the end of your snowflake sticks. Your snowflake currently has 6 ends to it. Two popsicle stick pieces will go on each end. To match the angles, you will have one the way you cut it and you will need to flip the other one over. Make sure the two angles are touching each other when you glue them in place. Do this with all 12 pieces.

  5. Step 5

Paint your snowflake white. This may take two coats. You don't want to be able to see the popsicle stick's wood underneath.

  6. Step 6

Sprinkle silver glitter all over the paint. Do this while the paint is still wet. The glitter will dry right in the the wet paint. The glitter will make the snowflake sparkle.

  7. Step 7

Wait for the paint and glue to dry and then shake off any excess glitter.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make this snowflake an ornament, hot glue a looped ribbon in the back of one of the snowflake sticks.
