Packing a diaper bag when you use cloth diapers is a little different than packing a diaper bag when you use disposables. Once you have chosen a special diaper bag for carrying all of your baby gear when outside of the house, pack it with all of the essentials you will need for on-the-go diaper changes. In order to avoid excess clutter and a messy diaper bag, stick to the basics when packing a diaper bag for cloth diapers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cloth diapers
  • Diaper wrap or cover
  • Baby wipes
  • Plastic bag (at least two)
  • Change of clothes for baby
  • Extra Snappi fastener or diaper pins
  • Clean shirt for mom or dad
  • Changing pad
  1. Step 1

Determine how many diapers, diaper wraps or covers and changes of clothing you will need for the length of time you will be out of the house. Always overpack rather than underpack diapers and clothing.

  2. Step 2

Fold the diapers, wraps and clothing neatly.

  3. Step 3

Stack the items in the diaper bag in the order that they will be used. The clean shirt for the mom or dad can go on the bottom, since it is the least likely item to be used. Place the baby's clothing on top of that, followed by the diaper wraps.

  4. Step 4

Place the folded diapers on top of the wraps. Be sure to have at least two diapers more than you think you will need for the length of time you will be out.

  5. Step 5

For convenience, place the changing pad on the very top of the stack in the diaper bag. It is the first thing you will need when it's time to change a diaper.

  6. Step 6

If you use Snappi fasteners or diaper pins, place some extras in a pocket inside the diaper bag.

  7. Step 7

Put the baby wipes in an easy-to-find location in the diaper bag. They will be used often, and you will want to be able to find them quickly.

  8. Step 8

Be sure to tuck a couple of plastic bags or a diaper wet bag in a pocket in the diaper bag. You should have one bag for soiled diapers and clothing and another for the used baby wipes.

Tips & Warnings
  • A large purse makes a stylish alternative to a baby diaper bag.
  • Buy a travel-sized container of baby wipes for the diaper bag.
  • If you make your own baby wipes, simply use the convenient, purchased container for the homemade wipes.
  • Always be sure to strap your baby onto the changing table in public bathrooms.
  • Never step away from your baby on the changing table.
