At the end of the five minutes, keep the microwave closed for an additional five minutes. This extra time will not only allow the liquid to cool so that it can be removed safely, it will also allow the evaporated lemon juice to keep working.
-
4
Open the microwave door and touch the bowl quickly and carefully. If it feels hot to the touch, remove the bowl with pot holders. Otherwise, you may remove it with your bare hands.

5
Pour the bowl of liquid down the sink.

Tips & Warnings
If there is food splattered around the inside of the microwave, that is likely contributing to the odor. Wipe away all of the food particles with a damp paper towel before using this procedure to deodorize it.
Even after letting the bowl sit for 5 additional minutes, the liquid will be hot enough to cause severe burns. Handle it with extreme caution.
