How to Use a Belly Band on a Dog
If your male dog is peeing on various corners of your furniture, try using a belly band to curb the damage (and smells) inflicted on the household. A belly band is like a diaper for a male dog; it fits around the stomach of the dog and keeps his urine inside the band. They're easy to use and adjustable. Plus, you can pop them in the wash to reuse over and over again, until your dog figures out that lifting his leg isn't leaving any more of that cool pee smell. Usually, he'll lose interest in marking the house.

1
Measure the dog around the stomach, from his back down under his stomach and returning to his back again. The belly band needs to fit snugly so that it won't slide off and end up around his tail or ankles.

2
When you get the right-sized belly band, stick a sanitary napkin inside the middle flap section, positioning it so it is right under the dog's penis. This will soak up all the urine. A dog doesn't use that much urine to mark, so one pad should be sufficient.

3
Put the belly band on the dog and velcro it shut at the top for a snug fit. Check to see that the sanitary pad is in the right position to do its job.

You can now allow your dog full roaming privileges in the house. If your dog only marks when you're not at home, go out for a short time and check the belly band when you return to see if the pad is saturated. You'll want to replace it when it's wet. Also, check his favorite marking spots to see if they stayed dry while you were out. Then you know your belly band is working.

5
Try out the belly band every time you go out for a few hours or for a couple of weeks. See if the dog begins to stop saturating the pads when you're gone. This means his habit is waning.
-
6
Take off the belly band when you let your dog outside to go to the bathroom. A dog shouldn't be forced to wear a belly band all day. Using a belly band is best for when you can't be vigilant and watch him in his trouble spots in the house.
