Step 1
Visit stores online that specialize in the sale of designer clothes at a discount. There are many online stores that offer enormous selections of designer clothes from various designers at anywhere from 10 to 60 percent off. The clothes they offer are not irregular or used. Sometimes, the least popular designs or last season's styles have the highest discount (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Stop by your local consignment shop. Many consignment shops have designer clothes. Some even have designer clothes that are brand new--with tags still attached! Many stores have a very short return time, so when people are unable to return new, unworn clothes to the store, they bring them to a consignment shop.
-
Step 3
Shop stores that stock irregular merchandise. High-end stores will not carry designer merchandise that is at all irregular. A small seam that has been sewn incorrectly or lining that does not lay flat will relegate clothing to being sold at a discount chain. Generally, these irregular designer clothes are not noticeably irregular, and are sold at up to 80 percent off the retail price (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Take a look at online auction sites such as eBay and Etsy. Much like consignment shops, online auction sites allow consumers unable to return merchandise the ability to sell the merchandise online and get some money back. When buying discount designer clothes online, you will have to pay shipping costs and will not be able to try the clothing on, so make sure you know your size (see Resources below).
-
Step 5
Visit high-end stores at the end of season. Designer clothes have very short seasons during which they are sold in stores. At the end of a season, the “old” clothes are quickly replaced by the next season’s must-haves. Generally, high-end stores that keep up this rotation will offer the last season’s clothes at a deep discount to get them out of the store and make room for the new clothes.

on 10/4/2009 Great advice on how to purchase discount designer clothes. I look at the end of seasons as your article suggests and get great classic pieces.
