Train your Peekapoo

Training your peekapoo will make life together much better for you and your new pet. A dog that chews the wrong things, potties on the floor and doesn't know how to obey can quickly earn your anger. However, a well-behaved peekapoo will be a joy to the family for many years.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach a narrow leash to the collar of your peekapoo and around your wrist so that your puppy is always with you. When you need to put your peekapoo away from you, place her in her crate with her litter box and toys. This will keep her out of trouble and content chewing her toys while you are busy. Most dogs will not go to the bathroom in their crates, and cannot chew your newest pair of shoes, either. If you place a litter box in the crate, it will encourage your peekapoo to use it.

    • 2

Push down slightly in front of the tail of your peekapoo and say "sit." When your dog sits, rub both of his sides with your fingers while saying "What a good boy." Repeat this several times a day until your peekapoo will sit without you pushing on his rear.

    • 3

Sit your peekapoo facing you and take a step backwards. Bend down to eye level, say "Come" and pull slightly on the leash. Offer a small morsel with verbal praise. Repeat this step several times a day until your peekapoo will come to you without pulling on the leash.

    • 4

Walk your peekapoo on the leash beside you just a few feet at first. If your dog is reluctant, place a small morsel out a few feet in front of where you are starting and give a slight pull on the leash. Repeat until your peekapoo will walk beside you on the leash without treats.

    • 5

Place your peekapoo in its crate whenever you cannot offer direct supervision. This gives your dog a rest period, a chance to chew on toys, get a drink or a snack, and use the litter box. Training a small dog to use the litter box will avoid accidents when left home alone for long periods. It will also avoid muddy feet on rainy days.

    • 6

Fill a water bottle and hang it in your peekapoo's crate. You may need to push the little ball up to show your dog that fresh water comes out. This will help avoid a messy face, spills or dirty water.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rotate the verbal praise, petting and doggie treats to keep your peekapoo excited about each.

  • Losing your patience will make training more difficult, so try to stay calm or take frequent breaks.
