1
Sit down in a group. If your fraternity is too large, then form a committee that can discuss what they are hoping to achieve from the fraternity party. Decide if this party will be used as a mixer with the local sororities, a charity event or is just to have a good time.

2
Decide on how your budget. How much money you have to spend on the party can drastically alter what fraternity party theme you choose. If you have very little money, you may not be able to supply the drinks, but you may be able to supply the party decorations. If the event is for charity, then you may want to scale back on the drinks and party supplies so that more of the money made from the party can go to the charity.

Decide when the party will take place. If the date for the party is just after school starts and the weather is still warm, then an appropriate fraternity party theme would be a beach party. Sprinklers and other outdoor water games can be set out, beach balls can be thrown around and fruity drinks can be served. If the party is set for the end of October, then a Halloween-themed fraternity party could be fun for everyone. At times, just choosing a date for the party gives you a great fraternity party theme.

Send a message to the party-goers. Choosing a message or a cause may help the fraternity choose a theme. A safe sex fraternity party theme can be enacted by passing out free condoms. A fraternity could also have an environmental party in which everyone recycles their cans and bottles instead of just throwing them in the trash. Instead of giving away something to the party-goers, the fraternity could ask that everyone who attends brings some kind of non-perishable food to donate to the local food pantry. These are great ways for fraternities and sororities to have their parties and give back to the community at the same time.

5
Compromise. If some are wanting to just drink and others want to meet the sorority girls, then have a "tie" mixer in which the girls have to match the tie with the right fraternity guy and then take a shot together.

If the fraternity is having trouble coming up with ideas, ask the sorority girls what they would like to see at the party, or call up some fraternity brothers who have graduated to see what kind of party themes they had.
Underage drinking is illegal. Make sure that your party stays safe and within the laws of your town.
