Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Peach tree
  • Lime
  • Hand-held tree trimmer
  • Organic disease control spray
  1. Step 1

Prepare the soil. On average, Georgia soil does not contain the proper pH levels required to grow an aboundance of peaches. To prepare the soil for your new peach tree, lime should be added to the soil to create a pH level of 6.5.

  2. Step 2

Plant in a sunny location. In order to maximize fruit production, peach trees should be planted in areas of full sun. To maximize the level of sun, peach trees should be thinned each year to allow sunlight to reach the inner branches.

  3. Step 3

Prune your peach tree in late winter. Following the peach tree's first year, remove any diseased or broken branches. By pruning each year, new growth will be promoted.

  4. Step 4

Protect the tree. Backyard peach trees in Georgia are prone to a variety of diseases if not protected. Growers must spray trees during the dormant months of winter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Contact your local Extension service to have the soil's pH level checked.
  • Do not plant peach trees under a towering tree of roof line.
