On Vacation in Britain and want to send a postcard home? Follow a few basic steps to send a letter or card "across the pond" from the UK to the USA.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Card and envelope
  • International postage
  1. Step 1

Find the closest post office. The Royal Mail has a branch locator, or you can use Google Maps. Use Google Maps or the Transport for London website to get directions on how to walk to your office (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Wait in line at the post office, ideally with your letter or postcard in hand. When you reach the counter, you'll need to purchase international stamps, specifying that you want to ship to America. A book of 10 usually runs around £8.

  3. Step 3

Get a book of blue "Air Mail" stickers to go along with your international stamps. These are just as necessary as the stamps.

  4. Step 4

Affix the stamp and air mail sticker to your piece of mail.

  5. Step 5

Mail your envelope. Either hand your piece of post through the window to the post worker who sold you the stamps, or drop it in one of the many red post boxes located throughout the city.

  6. Step 6

Expect your post to arrive in America in 4 to 7 business days. Post going to the West Coast--and to small towns--will take longer to arrive.
