HP Color Inkjet cp1700 series printers provide small businesses and home offices with professional-quality color printing. These printers use individual ink cartridges and print heads, which means you only have to change the part that needs replacing. The cost savings can be significant. These printers have the capability of automatically printing on both sides of a sheet of paper using a printing accessory called the auto-duplex unit. This unit comes standard on the cp1700D and can be purchased separately on other models in the cp1700 series.

Instructions

    • 1

Insure the power to the printer is turned off. Disconnect the power cable and any printer cables attaching the printer to the computer. Turn the printer until you have full access to the rear of the unit.

    • 2

Press the two buttons located on the outside surface of the rear access panel at the lower rear of the printer to release the access panel. Grasp the access panel and pull it straight back and away from the printer. Set the access panel aside.

    • 3

Grasp the auto-duplex unit with both hands. Slide the unit into the back of the printer. Push the auto-duplex unit forward evenly until both sides snap into place.

    • 4

Turn the printer back to its operational position. Connect the power cord into the power receptacle on the left side of the rear of the printer. Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. Press the power button located on the right side of the control panel to turn the printer on.

    • 5

Install printer software if you are setting up the printer for the first time. Connect the USB cable to the USB port located on the upper-left side of the rear of the printer. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • The rear manual feed is not available when you install the auto-duplex unit.

  • Do not press the buttons on either side of the auto-duplex unit when installing it. Use these buttons only for removing the auto-duplex unit from the printer.

  • To prevent electric shock, connect the power cord only to a grounded outlet. Only use the power cord that came with the printer.
