How to Dress Like a Construction Worker for Halloween

Halloween is a time of the year when kids and adults can dress up in costumes and wear outfits they might not wear every other day of the year. Buying new costumes every year can become very expensive, especially when a costume is only worn once. If you are looking to save money, yet maintain your creativity in choosing a costume, you might want to consider dressing like a construction worker for Halloween. Here are some tips on how to dress like a construction worker for Halloween.

Things You'll Need

• Painter or carpenter jeans
• Thermal top
• Flannel top
• Work boots
• Safety vest
• Tool Belt with tools
• Cell phone
• Hard hat

Instructions

1. Put on a pair of jeans. It doesn’t matter if they are old or new or have holes in them. Wear a pair of jeans that has the loop on the side of the leg for holding a hammer. These jeans are often called painter or carpenter jeans.

2. Wear a thermal shirt and flannel shirt. You can choose a thermal shirt of any color. Construction workers often work in cold weather and find thermal tops help keep them warm. Wear a flannel shirt over the thermal top. The flannel shirt can also be any color.

3. Put on a pair of work boots. Wearing used work boots with dirt or paint on them will compliment the construction worker look, as construction workers tend to get dirty in the field. Wear the boots with a heavy pair of socks. If you don’t have a pair of work boots, you can wear tennis shoes instead. Avoid sandals or other open toe shoes with your costume.

4. Put on a safety vest. Often times, safety vests are orange or neon yellow in color and have reflective strips on them. Wear the safety vest over the flannel shirt or jacket.

5. Wear a tool belt. You can either wear a toy tool belt, if you are a child, or a real tool belt, if you are an adult. Carry some tools or a tool box with you. You can find children’s tool belts and tool boxes at toy stores such as Toys 'R Us or KB Toys.

6. Carry a cell phone with you. You can carry the cell phone in your hand, in the pocket of your flannel shirt, or in a clip on the side of your jeans.

7. Wear a hard hat. You can find children’s hard hats at toy stores such as Toys R Us or KB Toys. Adult hard hats can be found online on sites such as eBay.com or Craigslist.com or find them at garage sales or thrift stores.

• You can save money by looking for clothes and accessories to complete your construction worker costume at thrift stores, garage sales, or online.

• If the colors of your costume are dark in color, be sure to include the safety vest so cars and traffic can see you when you are out trick or treating.
