How to Draw a Humpback Whale

Humpback whales are simple to draw as long as you know how to draw basic shapes. There are several areas that must be drawn to identify a humpback from a fish. These characteristics are the dorsal fin, blow hole and throat grooves. Here is how to draw these details as well as the basic form of a humpback whale.

  • Pencil
  • Paper

    Draw a curved line that faces upwards.

    Draw two connected triangles at the end of the line on the right side for the humpback's tail.

    Draw a curved line on the top of the first. This line should have a "U" shape in it, to represent a dorsal fin.

    Draw the flippers by starting with a curved line that creates an angle at the bottom and becomes a bunch of connected "'v'" shapes, as shown in Example 4.

    Add a circle for the eye, an oval for the blow hole and curved lines for the throat grooves.

    Erase the line across the flipper and you're done.
