How to Add Words to Verizon Wireless Text Message Word Bank

Cell phone users have several different entry modes to choose from when sending a text message. When using the “Word” option, the phone will automatically spell out words without you having to type in every letter. Unfortunately, not every word in the dictionary is in your cell phone's memory. Adding names, slang terms and other words to your phone is a fairly simple process.

    Instructions

      • 1

Go to the Messaging portion of your cell phone's main menu screen.

      • 2

Select “New Msg” and then “Txt Msg.”

      • 3

Press the down arrow on your keypad once on the Create Txt Msg screen. This will take you right to the text message box. You won't actually be sending a text message to anybody, so this is fine.

      • 4

Make sure that you are in the Word entry mode. To change the mode, click on the key that is to the left of the Send option. Above that key you will see either “Word,” “Abc,” “ABC,” “123,” “Symbols” or “Quick Text” depending on which entry mode you normally use. After you have pressed the Entry Mode key, press the number "1" or scroll up or down until you find “Word.” Press "OK" on your phone keypad and you'll be in the proper mode.

      • 5

Type the first letter of the word you want to enter into the phone bank. For example, the name “Tirza” is not a pre-set word. To begin adding the name, type the number 8 once. This will place the letter “T” in your text message box.

      • 6

Press the right arrow key on your phone keypad. Doing so skips over to the very next space.

      • 7

Enter the next letter for your word. For this example, that letter would be “I.” Once you've done this, press the right arrow again.

      • 8

Repeat this process until you have finished your word. Once you've fully spelled the word, press the right arrow key one more time so that the cursor is blinking next to the word.

      • 9

Click the “Options” key and then choose “Save as Draft.” Once you've saved the draft, the word you've made will be saved into your word bank. You can delete the draft whenever you choose, and the word will remain saved into your phone.
