For a wonderful summertime activity, make balloon yo-yos for your children. They can even get in on the process by decorating them. Balloon yo-yos are also fun giveaways for fairs, celebrations, afterschool programs and camps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water balloons
  • Water faucet
  • Puffy paint
  • Elastic string or rubber bands
  1. Step 1

Fill the balloon with approximately a half cup of water from the faucet. Blow up the rest of the balloon until it is approximately the size of a grapefruit. Tie the balloon closed.

  2. Step 2

Use the puffy paint to paint designs onto the balloon. There are no guidelines for the design on the balloon, so do whatever you want. Some suggestions for designs are stars, flowers, sailboats, or simple abstract squiggly lines.

  3. Step 3

Allow the paint to dry completely.

  4. Step 4

Cut the elastic string about 2 feet long, or an arm's length. Tie one end around the knot on the top of the balloon. The other end can be left as it is, or you may tie a loop to the other end to go around a finger or a wrist.

  5. Step 5

The weight of the water in the balloon will make it possible for the balloon to go up and down in a yo-yo effect with a simple flick of the wrist and tug on the elastic.
