There are certain “monsters” that will forever be linked to Halloween. Perhaps it is because generations of children have been frightened by these legendary beings which have been the subject of countless large and small screen films. These creatures include Dracula, the Wolf Man, and Frankenstein. It is likely that children will continue to mimic these monsters Halloween after Halloween for many years to come. However, finding costumes of some of these scary beings isn’t always easy. Sometimes, it will be necessary to create the costume from scratch, especially when it comes to a super monster like Frankenstein.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Child’s suit
  • Dark colored t-shirt
  • Dark shoes and socks.
  • Needle and thread and/or sewing machine
  • Black hair paint or Frankenstein wig
  • Face paint
  • Fake blood
  • Toilet paper or paper towel rolls
  • Head band
  • Silver spray paint
  • Magic markers
  • Body glue
  • Toy handcuffs
  • Fake leg shackles
  • Light weight chain
  • Fake scars
  1. Step 1

Search the child’s closet for an old suit that has been outgrown. Also look for a plain dark t-shirt. If these items aren’t readily available, shop thrift stores to locate items that can be modified to fit the bill.

  2. Step 2

Look for shoes that are a dark color or can be dyed a dark color. Make sure he tries these on for a perfect fit well before Halloween night.

  3. Step 3

Use toilet tissue or paper towels rolls to cut out sections that can mimic the bolts coming out of the monster’s head and neck. Cover the ends with cardboard.

  4. Step 4

Spray paint the bolts silver. Let them dry thoroughly before adding bolt detailing with magic markers.

  5. Step 5

Spray the child’s hair black or add a pre-purchased Frankenstein wig. Glue two of the handmade bolts on to each side of a headband that can be hidden within the child’s hair or glue them directly into the wig.

  6. Step 6

Apply green face paint to the child’s face, hands, arms, and legs.

  7. Step 7

Glue the other two bolts to the child’s neck with child safe body glue after the rest of the costume is put together.

  8. Step 8

Apply fake scars on the child’s face, hands and arms. Add some fake blood around each scar as though it were oozing or dripping from the wounds.

  9. Step 9

Break a pair of toy handcuffs in two. Hang a small amount of lightweight chain from each end. Put them on the child’s wrists or ankles.

Tips & Warnings
  • If possible, stick with dark, monotone colors for the entire costume. If necessary, dye everything a single color.
  • Work with flame retardant or flame resistant fabrics.
