How to Make a Belly Band From an Old T-Shirt

You love that great male dog of yours, except for the peeing in the house. If your dog is marking the furniture and you're tired of smelling dog pee every time you sit on the couch, try a belly band. It's like a doggie diaper for a male dog, and discourages the lifting of the leg habit. If your dog wears a belly band and marks, all the urine gets absorbed into the belly band and not on your furniture. The dog won't make any fresh smells, and will stop being triggered to re-mark the furniture because the smells will disappear. You can buy belly bands pre-made, but if you're strapped for cash and sick of dog pee, here's a belly band you can whip up for your dog using old stuff around the house, and it won't cost you a penny. Try and see if it works!

Instructions

    • 1

Find an old T-shirt that will fit snugly around your dog's stomach. You don't want it to slip off easily. A heavy material or spandex mix is good, because it will give the belly band more substance.

    • 2

Cut the T-shirt in half, throwing out the top part of the t-shirt with the sleeves. This will give you a piece of material that was once the bottom half of your shirt, and is a loop.

    • 3

Fit the T-shirt over your dog, so it covers his stomach area. If your dog doesn't like to wrestle into a T-shirt, you can cut the shirt on one side seam, wrap it around him and clip it at the top of his back with a large butterfly hair clip.

Place a sandwich-sized baggie in the belly band, under the dog's penis.

    • 5

Place a washcloth, folded in half, on top of the baggie. This should contain the urine, and keep the belly band dry. Your belly band is complete! After your dog moves around, you'll be able to see if your T-shirt is snug enough to hold the washcloth in the right place. You can always tighten by bunching up the shirt and clipping excess material with the hair clip.

Wash the washcloth and belly band whenever they get soiled, and reuse.
