Step 1
If you have a tree, make it a dog-safe zone.
Don't use tinsel, as dogs can accidentally ingest the stringy plastic. Keep your holiday lights off the base of the tree, and unplug them during the night or when you leave the dog alone to protect against shock danger. -
Step 2
Chocolate is for Santa, not dogs.
Don't place chocolate bars or any present containing chocolate, no matter how well-wrapped, under the tree. A dog can rip open packages and become poisoned in minutes. -
Step 3
Don't hang edible ornaments on the tree.
A dog can be injured by jumping up to eat them, and then injured by ingesting the inedible material used to hang them, like ribbons. -
Step 4
Skip the tinsel.
These thin stringy pieces of plastic can wreck havoc on a dog's digestive track. Be safe and decorate your tree with less dangerous alternatives. -
Step 5
Keep your flowers and plant on tables and counters. Holiday plants are beautiful, but they can be toxic to dogs. With a little planning you dog can have his or her safest holiday season ever!
