When exercising it is important to exercise at a level that allows you to reach your target heart rate, thus allowing for the maximum benefits of aerobic exercise. Here's an easy way to check your pulse rate.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clock with second-hand
  1. Step 1

Find your carotid pulse in your neck which is located on either side of the neck just below the jawbone.

  2. Step 2

Place the index or middle finger on the pulse. Do not use the thumb. Do not press hard. Just lightly touch.

  3. Step 3

Using a clock with a second-hand, count the pulses under your finger for 10 seconds. Multiply this number by 6 in order to calculate your pulse rate which is how many times your heart beats per minute.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consult your physician or an exercise trainer to learn what your individual maximum pulse rate should be while exercising.
