1
Cut a section of window screen that is a little larger than the top of the shoe box. Bend the outside edges of metal screening to create a lip to fit over the top of a shoe box.
-
2
Cut a piece of paper to fit inside the shoe box so that it lays flat against the bottom of the box. Choose decorative colors, as this will be the background to your screen printed design.
-
-
3
Select the design to be printed. Choose items whose silhouettes are easily recognizable, as this screen print design will be a silhouette in the color of the paper you choose.
-
4
Position the items on the paper in the bottom of the box. Limit the number of items to one or two complementary designs to avoid a busy look. Place the screen over the top of the box so that it fits snugly and will not shift or move. Select the color you wish to use for the project. Choose colors that contrast with the color of paper you are using for best results. Limit colors to one or two as too many colors will not produce the desired effect.
-
5
Dip the toothbrush in the chosen color and shake gently to remove excess paint and eliminate dripping. Quickly brush the toothbrush across the surface of the screen, spattering paint onto the paper below. Repeat until you have reached the desired density of paint on the paper. Allow to dry before adding colors for best results.
-
6
Remove the screen from the top of the shoebox once the paint is dry, and remove the cutouts from the paper. Remove the finished project from the shoebox and set it in an appropriately sized frame. Mat with a contrasting color if desired.
