Roaches are not only annoying; they carry disease and are extremely hard to get rid of. There are a number of spray products on the market today to help you in your battle against the ancient little critters. Using these sprays correctly is the best line of offense in the war on roaches.

From Quick Guide: Pest Control Guide
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start in the room where roaches are seen most often. Move furniture away from the walls and get everything off from shelves and out of cabinets. Using a wide spray, spray around the baseboard of the room first. Tighten the nozzle down to where you have a single steam of spray and spray the back of cabinets and shelves.

  2. Step 2

Move the furniture back into place and with the nozzle in the wide spray position, do the entire floor.

  3. Step 3

Repeat the procedure in every room of your home, including the basement, garage and attic. Roaches tend to hide in the walls and if you spray everywhere and are especially diligent around baseboards they have no way to escape. They will die due to lack of food.

  4. Step 4

Pay special attention in the kitchen, pantry and laundry room. Paper bags, cardboard boxes and other storage containers make perfect hiding places for roaches and these are often the way roaches get introduced to the home. Throw out any unneeded paper based bags or boxes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you live in a multi-family unit such as an apartment or duplex, contact your landlord about have all units sprayed. Roaches will always come back if they only have to run next door for a while.
  • Roach bait can be laid out in strategic areas after spraying for any hardy survivors. They will carry the bait back to the nest.
  • Sprinkle borax around baseboards and in cabinets. Roaches will eat the borax and then dehydrate themselves as water only swells the borax in their system.
  • The best defense against roaches is a clean home. Roaches will generally not stick around where there is no food for them to eat.

on 11/16/2008 I FOUND A FEW INCORECT POINTS IN THIS POST. FIRST: WHAT INSECTICIDE ARE YOU TREATING WITH, READ ANY & ALL LABELS FIRST, FOLLOW THE LABEL-IT'S THE LAW, DO NOT OVER APPLY ANY PESTICIDE FOR ANY REASON SO DO NOT TREAT THE ENTIRE FLOOR/WALLS OR ANYTHING UNLESS THE LABEL CALLS FOR IT. SECOND: ROACHES ARE OMNIVOROUS AND WILL EAT THIER YOUNG(UP TO 70% OF AN INFESTATION ARE NYMPHS)SO ROACHES MAY OUT LIVE YOUR TREATMENT.
WITH NEW PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET LIKE IGR'S THAT STOPS THE FEMALE FROM BREEDING, NON REPELANTS THAT ARE SO LOW IN TOXISITY ROACHES DONT KNOW ITS THERE AND ROACH BAITS THAT GIVES ROACHES A FOOD SOURCE TO REPLACE THE ONE THEY WHERE FEEDING ON.
