How to Decoupage Book Covers for School
Decoupage is an increasingly popular art form that enables crafters to not only express their inner beauty but indulge their creativity via simple tools and ingredients. For very little money, you can protect all of your children's schoolbooks with artfully decorated decoupage covers.
Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Cut the fabric you will be using into 2-by2 inch pieces and then set them aside.
-
2
Cut open your brown paper bag, cutting along the fold line from the top of the bag to one bottom corner. Beginning at this corner, cut along the entire rectangular bottom of the bag. By cutting along the fold seams all the way around, you will remove the bottom of the bag.

-
3
Spread your brown-paper rectangle flat and place an open book in the center of it.
-
4
Fold the bottom and the top of the brown paper over the top and bottom of your book. Place the book to the side while you firmly press down the top and bottom folds.
-
5
Leave the top and bottom still folded, then fold the left side of the paper over your book, closing the book in the process. Match the ends of both the left and right sides of the paper.
-
6
Trim approximately half the paper that extends past the edge of the book. Open the book again and, laying it flat, fold the left and right sides of the paper over the respective covers, pressing the folds firmly.
-
7
Spread wax paper over your work surface. With a paintbrush, mix the decoupage solution of 1/3 water to 2/3 white glue.
-
8
Lay out the book cover, outside facing up, and paint a small (2 inch) area with the decoupage mixture. Place a small piece of cloth onto the area and re-apply another thin layer of decoupage mix. The fabric should be thoroughly wet, but not dripping. Repeat this with each additional piece of fabric, overlapping the pieces for a collage effect until the cover is entirely covered.
-
9
Place the book into the cover and insert a piece of wax paper between the front cover and first page, and one between the back cover and the last page. Place the book (either side up) onto a clean piece of wax paper to dry completely overnight.
