Celebrate Christmas with your Beau in Los Angeles!

As temperatures drop in Los Angeles, opportunities abound for romantic nights for couples. Although a snow flurry rarely falls in the city, several places throughout Los Angeles make an extra effort to make Tinseltown feel like a Winter Wonderland. Snuggle up with your beau on a gondola ride or stroll through the Christmastime scene at the Grove shopping center.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

How to Celebrate Christmas as a Couple

  1. Step 1

Stroll through the Grove on Third Street in Los Angeles with your beau. During Christmas season, this outdoor shopping center is transformed into a winter wonderland and strings of Christmas lights hang from the rafters. Christmas music usually fills the air and its fountains make it a romantic place to take a date. After strolling through its walkways, grab a bite to eat at The Grove's romantic Whisper Lounge and Supper Club. Afterwards, head to the movies.

  2. Step 2

Take your beau to the Hollywood Santa Parade and kick off the Christmas season. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, floats, marching bands and Santa march down Hollywood Boulevard and greet locals. Purchase grandstand seats to make your beau more comfortable, or watch the parade from the sidelines for free. Before you hit the parade, buy some cups of hot cocoa to help keep you warm.

  3. Step 3

Go ice skating with your date. Since Angelenos rarely see snow flurries, this should be a treat. Pershing Square downtown transforms into an ice skating rink from mid-November to mid-January. The skating rink is actually outside and costs $6 for each one-hour skating session.

  4. Step 4

Head to Long Beach and take a gondola ride on Naples Island. Sail through Hannukah lights and snuggle under a blanket with your beau. As the water swirls all around, a gondolier sings Christmas songs to serenade you both.

  5. Step 5

Watch the sun set on one of the many beaches that line the coast. There's Zuma Beach in N. Malibu on Pacific Coast Highway. You'll pass Paradise Cove, a romantic inlet along the way and the Reel Inn: a cozy place for fresh seafood. Sawdust on the floor and outdoor heat lamps make for a casual and hearty outdoor meal.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dockweiler Beach in Marina del Rey is one of the only beaches near Los Angeles that allow bonfires on the beach. The beach has many bonfire pits, but beach goers must bring their own firewood, lighter fluid, newspapers and lighters.
  • Do not leave the bonfire unattended and be responsible: make sure it is completely covered and not burning before you leave the beach.
