Pumpkins usually elicit thoughts of pies, jack-o-lanterns and facial moisturizers. Facial masks and moisturizers have long taken advantage of the natural vitamins and moisturizing qualities of pumpkin pulp. Pumpkin seeds have a high vitamin A content, which is great for your skin, and contain zinc and vitamin C for your anti-oxidant quota . Pumpkin, thus, can heal your skin without the use of expensive designer creams and chemically enhanced masks. There are plenty of pumpkin masks for sale in stores, but making it yourself is so easy, why would you buy it? A simple can of plain (unspiced) pumpkin puree and other items from your kitchen will result in a face-saving moisturizer for dry and abused skin. Here’s how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 ounce canned plain pumpkin
  • 10 almonds
  • ¼ cup of honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon of olive oil
  • Food processor
  • Container with tight seal lid
  • Refrigerator

    How to Make Pumpkin Moisturizer

  1. Step 1

Toss almonds into a food processor and blend until they are of a fine texture. Or simply buy almonds already ground.

  2. Step 2

Add the rest of the ingredients to the food processor and mix on low until blended. You can also simply stir it up with a spoon.

  3. Step 3

Apply a thin layer of the mixture over your face and other dry areas such as elbows and knees. Sit back and enjoy the refreshing smell.

  4. Step 4

Leave on for about 10 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Rub in a bit to get the exfoliating effects before rinsing off. Towel dry.

  6. Step 6

A mask will keep for about three weeks in the fridge. Always stir well before applying to a warm face.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add a teaspoon of brown sugar to help with exfoliation.
  • Include ¼ teaspoon of heavy whipping cream for extra-dry skin.
  • For oily skin, add ¼ teaspoon cranberry juice or a splash of apple cider.
  • Set aside an hour or so before your big thanksgiving dinner so you and your family or friends can sit back with the pumpkin mask while the turkey cooks. If the smell stimulates your appetite, there is pumpkin pie just within reach.
  • If you have some pumpkin pulp you would like to use, simply place it in a pot with a little water and cook over a low heat until softened, just as you would for pie filling (without the seasoning.)
  • Be sure to get the unspiced pumpkin puree and not the pumpkin pie filling!
