1
Keep the lawn watered. New lawns require a lot of water at first because they are still trying to grow and sprout new seeds. Watering early morning as well as late afternoon or early evening for the first month will allow the grass to flourish. Water the new lawn for about 30 minutes twice a day. Watering the lawn during the heat of the day or when the sun is directly on the lawn will cause it to wilt, burn and become brown.

2
Lay seed. For the first week or two of the new lawn, lay more seed. You can rent or purchase a spreader for this or you can do it by hand. Spread it evenly throughout the yard. This will assist in filling in bare spots in the grass or when stubborn seeds do not wish to grow. You will also find that laying more seed will help the grass become thicker. Rake the seeds into the soil. This will assist in spreading them evenly as well as pushing them into the soil.

Fertilize the lawn. Purchase Natural Touch Organic Based Lawn Fertilizer or equivalent. This fertilizer is available at most local home improvement or department stores in your local area. You may choose to use another lawn fertilizer as well. Be sure to read all instructions before applying the food to your new lawn. Spread the fertilizer over the new lawn once a week. You can do this by hand or with a spreader. Rake the grass to spread the fertilizer. Be sure it is a soft plastic-tipped rake. Then water the lawn for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
Do not mow your new lawn for the first month. All the seeds need time to grow. If you mow the lawn, this can cause damage to the roots and seeds that have not yet grown.
