The larynx is a tubular structure about 2 inches long and 2 inches wide located at the back of the throat. It is also known as the "voice box." Larynx cancer is caused by an abnormal growth of malformed or damaged cells in the throat. Also known as laryngeal cancer, the condition mostly afflicts men over the age of 40, though women can develop the disease as well.Early stages of larynx cancer often display no symptoms, though as the condition progresses, individuals may develop a deeper or more scratchy voice. Individuals often complain of difficulty swallowing or of a constant feeling of a lump in the throat.
